THE DIARY OF THE HALF ORC PART THREE

We go into the market and I get the spell Life Conduit tattooed into my left shoulder and just hand out money to my friends who eye things in the market and realize they don't have enough money.

As my tattoo is finished Kres yells out something about imps being loosed? then Joefred yells about imps before one pops up and attacks Cayden! NO! He's hit! Cayden, Cayden, are you okay?  Cayden claws at the imp who starts bleeding.  What? it attacks back and hits him again, before flying another 5 feet in the air.  I briefly consider trying to glue its wings to its body before pulling out my crossbow and firing, I know the blow was solid, but it didn't even flinch. Cayden cast Ray of Frost at it then takes a step to the side.  It went invisible and I stare at the spot before lifting my cross bow and shooting the point in the air. I don't think i hit anything...

Two house drake's fly in, one attacks the air near us. House drakes... those, those are natural enemies of imps right? So these guys are on our side? Cayden just starts singing. I shoot at the bleeding one because that one attacked Cayden and watch the evil little creature duck my bolt. Cayden moves closer to the imps and claws one of them and it falls to the ground.  The other attacks stings him. I shot it with my crossbow and I need to check my bolts, because it doesn't seem to hurt these things at all, and I know I hit it. But a house drake comes over and kills the beast. One of the drake's heals Cayden and we pet it for a bit in thanks.

I go purchase a wand of magic missiles for Cayden, he might not be able to use it just yet, but still.

We get summoned to go see Field Marshal Cressida Kroft a few days later. She introduces us to Vencarlo Orisini, I look at the group with a confused face while most of them nodd.  She mentions our fight with the imps and we bring up how they need to employ more house house drakes to keep up with the problem but eventually Kroft cuts us off "As much as I would enjoy continuing the conversation, I fear we just don’t have time. Vencarlo has learned something that could degrade into sanctions, embargoes, or even war against Cheliax if we don’t act now. This problem is a man named Darvayne Gios Amprei, an ambassador from Cheliax whose disdain for Korvosa is well documented, though he’s taken great pleasure in what our city has to offer. Even before this recent unrest, this man was ready to recommend to his government a sanction on trade, or perhaps even an embargo. Vencarlo has learned through his own considerable sources that Ambassador Amprei’s actual goals are to undermine Korvosa’s economy to the point where he can buy up large portions of the city from desperate landholders. He plans to establish himself in a position of power here before advising the end of the sanctions with his allies in Cheliax. We can’t let his bias or personal plans hurt Korvosa. Yet neither can we take drastic action—not only would killing him be wrong, but it’d simply martyr him in Cheliax’s eyes. Fortunately, the ambassador has his foibles. Again, Vencarlo has learned that Ambassador Amprei has been making fairly regular visits to a place in Old Korvosa called Eel’s End. This den of vice is run by a dangerous man named Devargo Barvasi, better known in Korvosa’s alleys as the King of Spiders. I’d love to put Devargo out of business, but he pays his vice taxes regularly and never causes any problems—in fact, since he keeps his business constrained entirely within the five ships moored at Eel’s End, he’s actually one of the least of my worries. Truth be told, I can’t decide whether Devargo is a stirge or a kraken. He seems like a bloodsucking pest most days, but sometimes I fear just how far his tentacles have wormed their way into our great city. In this case though, his insidious web stretching across Korvosa’s underworld might be to our advantage. Devargo would never let someone he recognizes as an ally of the Guard into Eel’s End, but your group’s a different case. I’d like you to pay a visit to Eel’s End and secure an audience with Devargo. Find out what he knows about Amprei, get proof of any illicit goings-on the ambassador might be involved with, and bring that proof to me. I can use it to undermine any forthcoming attempts by him to get Cheliax to cut us off. Devargo might not be willing to part with his information easily. I’ll supply you with some gold to bribe him, and whatever’s left over you can keep for yourself. Remember: Devargo is dangerous, but so are you—if things get violent, I wouldn’t mourn his passing."  Kres blurts a few things while she talks "Wait, you want us to murder an ambassador?", "Oh, so we just take out a kneecap or two?". "The king of spiders? How does Lolth feel about that? Has anyone asked her?", "Go kill another crime boss, blackmail the ambassador, got it." Other than not knowing who Lolth is, me and Cayden snicker. Kiyo mumbles "King of Spiders? Dream spiders?". The guy offers to escort us and we accept. Out of boredom while walking with the guy I notice that he never bends the ring and pink and he is wearing gloves. That peeks my interest a little bit. Kiyo ask how much he charges for lessons and I tilt my head at her.  Sure this guy has a really nice magical rapier, but why would she ask lessons from him? 10 gold per lesson? is that expensive?

OOC Joefred is trying to figure out how much French fencing academies charge.  Kiyo says they charge extra for the white flag. Kres thinks Joefred should ask to learn how to fence with his Horsechopper.

We are escorted to the next the area and stop and apply a disguise kit on Joefred. Then we head over to a tavern and Cayden starts singing, Kiyo starts dancing, which distracts Cayden. Kram starts juggling, and the rest of us start talking to people. Someone offers to take us to a place which I think is a brilliant idea and agree happily Cayden pops me on the back of the head. I take it that would be stupid, but we agree to go anyways. As we are walking behind him in an ally Kres silently ask if we should kill him, I shake my head. But as we walk deeper into the alley I start to get suspicious and notice something ahead of us. Great, I elbow Cayden and point, its an ambush.

A person steps from an ally behind us and in front of us and Kiyo grabs our escorts and tells them to call it off or she will revile her true form. The one in front of us laughs and goes "We aren't human either" and turns into, is that a were-rat? and steps towards Kiyo and attack her.  I point and say "So we have Roquefort in front, Nibbles in back, hey are you Sniffles?" before shooting Sniffle and missing. But Cayden steps up and claws him and he just crumples. I cast Glue Seal on Nibbles but he doesn't seem bothers... Man. This spell is worthless. Cayden... Cayden... Are you really taking a bite of the dead body? WHY? So gross. Then I attack Nibbles with my dagger and he barely notices the hit, but... but he's bleeding?  Cayden attacks Roquefort and while it didn't seem to bother him, he starts bleeding profusely. I swing at Nibbles but miss. Cayden looks down at the body in front of him and just preps himself in case it moves.

And then the fight is over and Kiyo is looking down at herself and I realize that she is bleeding. "I think I need to get this looked at"

We go into town and make sure she gets healed.

I woke up feeling stronger and my bond to Cayden stronger.
